BritMums Live 2013: The Recap

by Amry on June 24, 2013

Over the weekend Sarah & I descended upon London to attend BritMums Live 2013! This was our first blogging event as Not Keeping Mum and we made the most of it! The convention kicked off on Friday afternoon and was held at the The Brewery, a beautiful historic venue in the heart of London. Once we got registered and enjoyed a quick coffee, we all made our way into the “hub” where we were formally welcomed by the BritMums founders and then treated to our first keynote talk given by Kirstie Allsopp. I’ll quickly add (or brag) that we stole a short chat with Kirstie herself before heading into the hub. And in case you’re curious, Sarah & I can both confirm that she was completely pleasant and personable – as if we needed any more reasons to love her!

It was fantastic to hear first hand from many industry experts and I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that several of the talks in particular really got my creative wheels turning! I was also truly impressed with how well we were looked after. They kept us well fed and watered, laid out a lovely drinks do before The BiBs, provided all kinds of handy notepads and pens and when all was said & done sent us on our way with a fantastic goody bag! BritMums & their generous sponsors were certainly the hostess with the mostess!

amry&sarahbritmumsThere’s always a learning curve when you attend one of these events for the first time. For instance, get a photo of yourself on the first day when you’re fresh faced and well rested – not on the last day, after the last talk, when your lipstick has worn off and your eyes look a bit tired from staying up too late the night before. Lesson learned from the photo above (ha ha)! But also (on a less egotistical note) it’s worth while planning your itinerary before hand, thinking through questions you’d like to ask, and organising in advance any meet ups with fellow bloggers. Sarah & I both regretted not meeting more people personally. We’ve had wonderful interaction with like minded ladies on our blog and Twitter – and we were really looking forward to finally meeting a few face to face. But between the busy schedule, being newbies ourselves and having to awkwardly stare at people’s chests to catch a glimpse of their name tag, it didn’t happen as easily as we would have hoped. But oh well, just another reason to attend next year!

So were you able to make it to BritMums Live this year? What were some highlights for you? Anything you’d do differently next time around? I’m so glad we made the effort to attend! It gave us a great opportunity to learn more about the ins and outs of blogging & how to do it better! And any excuse for Sarah & I to get together in the lovely city of London is worth while in my books! A BIG thank you to all involved and we look forward to seeing you all there again next year!

Love, Amry xxx
