Through Their Eyes

by Amry on November 19, 2013

Do you have days where you don’t feel like you’re cutting it as a Mum? I sure do. In fact, more often than I’d like to admit lately, I’ve found myself in stressful situations with my kids thinking, “Am I really the best one for this job? Surely the real mother of these children will show up any second now and sort this out!” But alas, that real mother is in fact always me.

At times I’m tired, my patience wears thin, I get snappy and short tempered – and my children pay the price for it (although my husband would argue that he pays a good chunk of that price too). It’s not fair, I know, but it’s how it goes sometimes. And then other times I nail it as a Mum – I have energy (read: I got sleep) and am filled with peace and patience as a parent. So when the above video made the rounds on a few friend’s Facebook pages last week, it struck me that I need to stop being so tough on myself. As mums, our go-to emotion seems to always be guilt about our shortcomings, but we need to get over it because our kids don’t see things that way – they see the good.

So let’s try and ease up on the guilt, give ourselves a break and start seeing ourselves through our kid’s eyes.

Love, Amry xxx

What a lovely video, totally made me cry. It’s true, we’re often too busy being tough on ourselves that we forget how wonderful certain little people think we are.

Thanks for your comment California Mum! The video was a good reminder wasn’t it? Clicked through to your blog and was amazed to find we’re both San Diego natives, married Englishmen & now mums living in the UK! What are the odds? We’ll have to keep in touch, especially as the English winter sets in & we no doubt get homesick for that So Cal sunshine!
