Finger Lickin Good – Will Your Baby Take A Spoon?

by Sarah on February 19, 2013

I weaned Dylan fairly early at 19 weeks, due to his reflux and his size – and I was quite shocked at how quickly he progressed through new flavours and textures. At first he really enjoyed being fed but it wasn’t too long before his independent streak (which I take full credit for) began to surface and he was forever whipping the spoon from my hand, desperately trying to find his own mouth…which rarely happened.

Fast forward five or six months and he absolutely will not eat anything unless he’s feeding himself and this never involves a spoon. I’m all for baby led weaning but watching my boy attempts to shovel things like yogurt, sloppy Weetabix and soup into his mush can be as painful as it is funny – I’ve had to find a lot of patience as meal times can now take well over an hour!

I’m actually really relishing this stage – the awe and wonderment over a piece of corn or a Cheerio (so cute) but sometimes I just want to take control and get something down him swiftly…sometimes whole days are spent at the kitchen table! Does anyone else have a headstrong babe who’s calling the shots? Do you encourage the use of a spoon or are you happy to sit back and enjoy the mess?

Aww – obviously not at this stage myself yet but fun to see what’s ahead! Very cute pictures you’ve taken – will be really fun to remember the day to day as well as trips out as he grows up and changes. I need to remember to do this!

Thanks Rosie – helps that Dylan is quite the poser! I can hardly imagine doing it with three in one fell swoop…there’s going to be a lot of laughter in your house! Hope you’re well xxx
